1. Apply for a School With an Esthetics Program.
The first step to becoming an esthetician in Oklahoma is by applying to a local school that offers an esthetics program. Most esthetics programs focus on facial treatments, makeup application and hair removal. At Elite Academy of Cosmetology, our 600-hour esthetics program is broken down into:
- Dermatology, Histology, & Physiology
- Non-Permanent Hair Removal
- Salon Development
- Cosmetology Laws, Rules, & Regulation
Licensed estheticians can also have the opportunity to take additional training courses to become certified in services such as microblading, lash extensions, and advanced makeup applications.
We greatly value our students’ education and want them to get as much hands-on practice as possible. Esthetics students have the opportunity to work in our student salon* while in school and perform services on clients so they can gain real experience before they graduate. Contact us to find out more about how we structure our esthetics program!
2. Complete the Required 600 Hours and Take a Written and Practical Exam.
Our 600-hour program at Elite Academy of Cosmetology can be completed in just a few short months. For scheduling options, contact us! Our admissions representatives would be more than happy to walk you through schedules that can fit into your life.
Once you have completed your 600 hours, you will be required to sit for a written and practical exam offered by The Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. Did you know that they offer up to 3,500 exams every year? Our staff can help you find a testing date and location that is most convenient for you following the completion of our program.
3. Apply for State Licensure.
Now that you’ve completed your program and taken your exams, it’s time to apply for state licensure. There may be a fee associated with your application, and our staff can help you determine how much it might be. To apply for state licensure, Oklahoma has a few other requirements in order to be eligible. You will need to:
- Be over 16 years of age.
- Have completed at least eighth grade.
